What to confirm first
Before comparing prices or amenities, write down your vessel’s exact dimensions and normal use. Ask the marina about the berth itself and the route into it—not just the largest vessel the marina has ever hosted.
- Length, beam, displacement and draft together
- Shore power capacity
- Approach depth and turning room
- Commercial or crew requirements where relevant
Then compare the everyday experience
Think about parking and access, shelter, time to cruising water, shore power and water, and where you will fuel, service or haul out. A cheaper berth can be costly in time if it is far from the sailing you do most.
For short stays, ask about arrival windows, office hours and the marina’s preferred contact procedure. For long-term berthing, read the licence, insurance requirements and what is included in the fee.
Make the enquiry specific
Tell each operator you are comparing a berth for large vessels. Send the four dimensions in one message and identify whether you need a visitor stay, a regular home base or access to a yard. Ask for the actual pen or mooring dimensions, approach constraints and the terms that apply to your use.
