SERVICES & SAFETY / PRACTICAL GUIDE

Fuel, pump-out and waste: what to verify

Recorded services help you ask better questions; they do not tell you whether a fuel berth or pump-out is usable today.

THE DECISION IN ONE LINE

Confirm service type, hours, approach, booking and vessel compatibility directly with the operator.

01 / WHAT TO CHECK

Separate fuel availability from fuel usability

Ask which fuel types are supplied, when the facility is open and whether the fuel berth suits your boat’s draft, length and manoeuvring needs. A 24-hour flag is useful only if the actual access process fits your schedule.

For passage planning, verify the current fuel arrangement close to departure. The approved YouSail export is a snapshot, not a live operating-hours feed.

Ask the operator
  • Which fuel and payment methods are available?
  • What are the current hours and after-hours procedures?
  • Can my boat safely access the fuel wharf?
02 / WHAT TO CHECK

Treat pump-out as its own appointment

Ask whether pump-out is self-service, staff-assisted or by booking. Check the connection, location, cost and whether visitors may use it.

A pump-out flag can be missing even where a facility exists. Search by area and ask operators directly when waste handling is essential to your trip or berth choice.

Ask the operator
  • Is the fitting compatible with my boat?
  • Do I need to book staff or a service window?
  • Where is the facility relative to my berth?
03 / WHAT TO CHECK

Consider the whole shoreside routine

For longer stays, ask about rubbish, recycling, oily waste, toilets, showers and laundry as separate services. Do not assume a marina’s general “amenities” description covers each one.

Keep service answers beside your berth fit, location and current quote. A marina can be a good stop without being the right home base for every maintenance need.

Ask the operator
  • What waste facilities may berth holders and visitors use?
  • Are access hours or fees different?
  • What alternatives are nearby if a service is unavailable?

QUESTIONS ANSWERED

FAQs about this choice.

Does “24-hour fuel recorded” mean fuel is always available?

No. It reflects a source flag in the approved snapshot. Confirm current hours, fuel type, approach and access procedure with the operator.

Does a missing pump-out flag mean there is no pump-out?

No. Missing structured data is not a negative finding. Ask the marina or use the original YouSail profile as a starting point.

Should I book pump-out before arriving?

Ask the operator. Some services require staff or a berth allocation; the directory cannot confirm the current process.
