SERVICES & SAFETY / PRACTICAL GUIDE

Marina Security & Boat Checks

Gates and cameras do not by themselves describe how a marina manages access or an unattended boat.

THE DECISION IN ONE LINE

Ask what security measures exist, what they do not cover and who remains responsible for checking the vessel.

01 / WHAT TO CHECK

Marina gates, lighting, CCTV and incident reporting

Ask about gates, lighting, cameras, patrols and visitor access without assuming any measure prevents loss. Find out how incidents and lost credentials are reported.

Inspect whether the route from car to berth feels legible and adequately lit for your normal hours. Security is an operating arrangement, not a simple yes-or-no badge.

Ask the operator
  • Which areas are access controlled?
  • How are lost keys or codes handled?
  • Who receives an incident report?
02 / WHAT TO CHECK

Unattended boat checks and owner responsibilities

Clarify whether staff visually check boats, whether that is a paid service and what triggers contact with an owner. Arrange your own qualified checks where needed.

Keep emergency contacts current and understand the agreement’s responsibility clauses. A security flag in the source record is not insurance or a surveillance guarantee.

Ask the operator
  • Are boat checks offered or included?
  • How quickly is an owner contacted?
  • Who may access the boat in an emergency?

QUESTIONS ANSWERED

Frequently asked questions about marina berth planning

Does CCTV mean my boat is continuously monitored?

Not necessarily. Ask about coverage, purpose and operating procedures without assuming a guarantee.

Will marina staff check my lines?

Only the operator can describe included or paid checks and the owner’s responsibility.

Should crew have separate credentials?

Use the marina’s authorised process so access can be managed and revoked appropriately.
