About the marina

Hope Island Marina occupies a protected harbour inside the Hope Island Resort precinct, off a bend of the Coomera River at the northern end of the Gold Coast Broadwater. What sets it apart from nearly every other marina in the country is tenure: the berths are freehold, bought and sold like land, so the docks have the settled feel of a waterfront suburb rather than a rental marina, and berth ownership is open to anyone, including non-residents under FIRB approval, with no requirement to own property in the resort. Around 270 to 280 pens take monohulls and multihulls from 12 to 30 metres, and a substantial share of them are lived aboard, which gives the marina a genuine year-round population rather than a weekend pulse. The setting is unashamedly resort: the Links Hope Island golf course wraps one side, Sanctuary Cove lies just across the water, and the Hope Island shopping village with its supermarket, tavern, cafes and medical services sits a short stroll from the gangways. The clientele reflects that blend: Gold Coast families with cruisers, retirees living aboard full-time, and cruising yachts working their way up or down the inside passage, which passes within a couple of minutes of the marina entrance. It is a quiet, orderly marina by Gold Coast standards, without a shipyard or fuel dock of its own; owners here have deliberately traded on-site heavy industry for security, shelter and proximity to two of the country's largest marine service precincts barely a nautical mile up the channel.

Berthing & shoreside services

Berths run from 12 to 30 metres in floating pens suited to both monohulls and catamarans, offered on freehold title, long-term lease or casual rental through the on-site marina office, which handles berth letting and sales. Published outgoings on a typical 12-metre pen cover water, power, security and use of the bathroom and laundry facilities, and berth holders access the docks with a secure key fob under 24-hour CCTV monitoring. Every berth has fresh water and shore power, with three-phase power available for larger vessels, and a pump-out station handles black-water disposal. The shoreside amenity is hotel-grade rather than yard-grade: private bathrooms and showers open around the clock, a laundry, and full use of the Hope Island village next door, where a Coles supermarket, the Boardwalk Tavern, restaurants, cafes, a chemist, newsagent and medical centre sit within walking distance. What the marina does not do on site it out-sources by geography: Gold Coast City Marina and Shipyard and The Boat Works, two of the biggest refit and haul-out complexes in the southern hemisphere, lie about 1.5 kilometres up the Coomera River channel and provide fuel, hardstand, travel lifts, chandleries and every trade from antifouling to full superyacht refits. Liveaboard occupancy is accepted, which is increasingly rare in Queensland marinas, and casual berthing is offered subject to availability. There is no boat ramp inside the marina; trailered boats use public ramps on the Broadwater. Security is layered by the resort's own gated perimeter on top of the marina's fob access and camera coverage, making this one of the more theft-resistant berthing options on the coast.

The marina sits inside a dredged basin off the Coomera River channel at the top of the Broadwater, with no bridges between the entrance and open water, so masted yachts and flybridge cruisers come and go without air-draft worries. Depths in the channel and basin suit keeled yachts, though the northern Broadwater beyond is famously shoal; newcomers should hold the marked channels, particularly on the run past Cabbage Tree Point and down toward Jacobs Well, where the banks dry at low water. From the marina it is roughly a 40-minute cruise south down the Broadwater to the Gold Coast Seaway, and about 24 nautical miles north through the Jumpinpin channel to the southern end of Moreton Bay, which makes Hope Island a natural overnight for cruisers transiting between the two systems. The Coomera River upstream is bridge-free and deep, and the run past the shipyards to the river's upper reaches is a pleasant sheltered motor on a windy day. Anchorages within easy reach include the lee of South Stradbroke Island, Tipplers, and the quieter reaches around Tipplers Passage and the Never Fail Islands. Ashore, the Boardwalk Tavern is the local for berth holders, Sanctuary Cove's marine village is a five-minute run by tender, and the M1 at exit 57 puts Brisbane under an hour away by road. Liveaboards here tend to stay for years, and the berth resale market is tight; anyone wanting a pen should expect to buy rather than wait for a rental. The only real caution is weekend Broadwater traffic, which churns the channel on summer Sundays but rarely amounts to more than a rolling inconvenience at the dock.
