About the marina

When it opened in September 2000, Palazzo Versace was billed as the world's first fashion-branded hotel, a Donatella Versace-styled confection of marble, gilt and Medusa motifs rising over the Broadwater at 94 Sea World Drive, Main Beach. The private marina fronting the hotel was part of that vision: a small basin where guests and condominium owners could step from a lobby hung with Italian chandeliers straight onto a motor cruiser. The Versace licence ended in 2023 and the property was renamed the Imperial Hotel Gold Coast, though the Versace furniture, Greek key patterns and Roman-inspired artworks remain throughout, and the hotel has since been flagged for Hilton's LXR collection. The marina itself is compact, with berths advertised from about 11 to 32 metres, and it sits in a remarkable stretch of waterfront: Marina Mirage's superyacht basin lies immediately to one side, the Sheraton Grand Mirage to the other, and Southport Yacht Club is a short stroll along Macarthur Parade. Unlike its neighbours, this is not a commercial marina chasing berth holders; it functions as an amenity of the hotel and the adjoining Palazzo Residences, where condominiums have been sold with dedicated berths, 21-metre moorings appearing in recent listings as a headline feature. The result is a quiet, closely held little harbour whose population of cruisers and game boats shifts with the hotel calendar, framed by one of the most recognisable hotel facades on the Queensland coast and a 65-metre lagoon pool that has starred in decades of tourism photography. Weddings, high teas and waterfront events keep the foreshore busy year-round.

Berthing & shoreside services

Published detail on the marina is deliberately thin, which reflects its private nature: berthing is arranged through the hotel rather than a public marina office, with marina enquiries handled on (07) 5509 8055. Berths are advertised across a range from about 11 metres to a maximum of 32 metres, and the Gold Coast Waterways Authority superyacht guide has listed 24 superyacht-capable berths at the address. Power and water are available at the berths, and the mooring is described in residential listings as secure, with 24-hour manned security across the hotel complex. There is no fuel berth, pump-out station, travel lift or hardstand on site; vessels needing fuel use the 24-hour jetty at Southport Yacht Club a few minutes along the Broadwater, and haul-out work goes to the Coomera marine precinct up the Nerang River. What berth holders and guests do receive is full integration with a five-star hotel: 24-hour room service, concierge support for provisioning, transfers and bookings, and access to the hotel's facilities including the 65-metre lagoon pool, the fitness and wellbeing centre, day spa, and the hotel's restaurants and bars. Dining runs from the seafood buffet at Il Barocco through fine dining at Vanitas to high tea and cocktails at Le Jardin, and berth access has historically been packaged with both hotel stays and ownership of the two and three-bedroom condominiums in the Palazzo Residences, some of which include private plunge pools and secure basement parking. Casual commercial berthing is not the model here; availability depends on the hotel and the body corporate, so anyone seeking a berth should treat it as a private arrangement negotiated well in advance.

Local context in YouSail

This is directory context, not navigation advice. Check current charts, notices and official boating resources before passage.

The marina fronts the main Broadwater channel on the western side of The Spit, and the run in from the Gold Coast Seaway takes barely ten minutes in calm conditions. Depths in this part of the Broadwater are generous by local standards, but the channels shift after floods and the Beacon to Beacon guide is worth having aboard, as buoy positions change. The seaway bar conditions are the real gatekeeper: a strong ebb against a northerly swell makes the entrance uncomfortable, and VMR Gold Coast on VHF 16 gives current advice. Once berthed, everything about the location favours those who want shore-side entertainment without a car. Tedder Avenue's restaurants and cafes are a flat walk away, the patrolled beach at Main Beach is about 100 metres over the dunes, and the Marina Mirage precinct next door, though mid-redevelopment, still offers waterfront dining. Sea World is directly across Sea World Drive, which makes the marina popular with families mixing boating and theme park days. Afloat, the southern Broadwater anchorages behind Wave Break Island and the Jumpinpin bar precinct are easy day trips, and the inside passage north opens the run to Moreton Bay and Brisbane. The marina's clientele is a blend of hotel guests arriving by water, condominium owners who treat their cruiser as part of the apartment, and occasional charter vessels using the hotel as a guest pick-up point. Weekend Broadwater traffic is heavy in summer, with jet skis thick around the seaway, so early morning departures are the local habit. Fishing crews work the seaway walls for tailor and mulloway at dawn before the wash picks up.
